NHS hopes new artificial intelligence software will be able to spot damage in heart scans in seconds
Artificial intelligence software is poised to drastically slash NHS cardiology waiting lists and give heart patients a faster diagnosis. The program can carry out complicated measurements in less than a minute that normally take doctors about 20 minutes. Patients with heart problems usually undergo MRI scans to determine how enlarged the chambers of the organ are – a sign that it is under strain – and whether they will need invasive surgery or can be treated with medication. The scan captures about ten different images of the heart, each from a slightly different angle, to create a full picture. Doctors then have to print out these scans and painstakingly measure the size of the chambers by physically drawing on them.
New Findings Show Artificial Intelligence Software Improves Breast Cancer Detection and Physician Accuracy
A New York City based large volume private practice radiology group conducted a quality assurance review that included an 18 month software evaluation in the breast center comprised of nine (9) specialist radiologists using an FDA cleared artificial intelligence software by Koios Medical, Inc as a second opinion for analyzing and assessing lesions found during breast ultrasound examinations. Over the evaluation period, radiologists analyzed over 6,000 diagnostic breast ultrasound exams. Radiologists used Koios DS Breast decision support software (Koios Medical, Inc.) to assist in lesion classification and risk assessment. As part of the normal diagnostic workflow, radiologists would activate Koios DS and review the software findings with clinical details to formulate the best management. Analysis was then performed comparing the physicians' diagnostic performance to the 18-month period prior to the introduction of the AI enabled software.

Scientists, including one of Indian-origin, have developed a new artificial intelligence software that can turn any smartphone into an eye-tracking device. Eye-tracking technology - which can determine where in a visual scene people are directing their gaze - has been widely used in psychological experiments and marketing research, but the required pricey hardware has kept it from finding consumer applications. In addition to making existing applications of eye-tracking technology more accessible, the system developed by researchers at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and University of Georgia may enable new computer interfaces or help detect signs of incipient neurological disease or mental illness. "Since few people have the external devices, there is no big incentive to develop applications for them," said Aditya Khosla, an MIT graduate student. "Since there are no applications, there's no incentive for people to buy the devices. We thought we should break this circle and try to make an eye tracker that works on a single mobile device, using just your front-facing camera," he said.

Mysterious AI startup bags 4.7M to put an artificial brain in every application

A startup called DimensionalMechanics Inc. is launching out of stealth mode this morning with 4.7 million in funding to try and level the playing for the rest of the market. The cash will be used to complete the development of its cloud-based artificial intelligence, which aims to provide pre-implemented neural networking functionality for organizations that can't create their own. NeoPulse, as the service is called, takes after the human brain in many respects. It's capable of understanding information in a variety of different of formats ranging from text to video, and has the ability to pick out the most interesting details so that the user won't have to sift through all the data on their own.
